Our Mission: To promote the model railroad hobby with emphasis on garden railroads and G scale, to educate and assist new hobbyists in getting started in this hobby, and to support model railroad layouts in local museums both as a community service opportunity and as an educational opportunity for ourselves.
Minnesota Friends members share their love of model railroad with visits to member's private layouts as well as museum layouts. Members who have signed up as volunteers at any of the museums represented here are welcome to bring in their own trains and run them on museum layouts.
Over the course of the year, our group activities are expected to include a picnic at the Wayzata Depot Museum which is located in a beautiful park on the shore of Lake Minnetonka. We are planning a member exclusive visit to the Minnesota Transportation Museum Jackson Street Roundhouse with tours of the roundhouse and museum, food, and swap meet. A group event at the Twin City Model Railroad Museum is under consideration. There are other events on the table as well.
Members owning a private layout regularly throw garden railroad parties that clubs often refer to as "open houses". They generally aren't really open to the public. These private showings or garden railroad parties are open to our group members. Details of any of these parties are entirely up to the layout owner, and invitations will be emailed to our members.
